His mate

1543 Words
Xena “Alpha Xael is back! His Highness is back!” The Gamma shouts in the corridor as trumpet sounds fill the air. My heart is jumping with joy as I fly out of my chambers. He has been away for two weeks, yet I missed him dearly. Nine years since we mated but I still feel love sick like this. I almost crash into Fiona, who is also rushing outside. “My brother is back. Someone is going to be spoiled rotten,” she teases while I roll my eyes at her. She thinks I am the most spoiled Luna in the world because her brother dots over me. Maybe I am. Those are the joys of marrying your lifetime best friend. “The Luna will be indisposed for the whole month. Poor us,” she adds, making me blush. Xael and I will be indisposed. We always have a lot of catch up to do when he returns, but it’s never a month as she puts it. “I should tell everyone not to get seriously sick or injured. They will be as good as dead.” Trust Fiona to exaggerate everything. The hospital has two other doctors beside me, and I always attend to the very sick no matter what. Xael might come along with me, and hand out in my office while I work, but I ever neglect my patients. I inhale as we get to the courtyard. Even the air is sweet. He is a mile away, yet his scent makes its way through my nostrils, making me gasp. Lord, I missed him. Multitudes of our pack members are already gathered outside to welcome Xael, his Beta and our warriors. Multitudes around him, yet my eyes only land on him. Tall, dark, hot as hell with an aura of nobility. Our pack regalia is sticking to him like a second skin with everything bulging in all the right places. I wish I can fly and be in his arms already, but I restrain myself and slowly make my way through the crowd. The crowd bows and make way for me and Fiona as we approach him. Our eyes lock. He flashes me that smile, making my heart race. I am taken aback when a tall, slim, gorgeous woman, probably my age emerges behind him and possessively holds on to his arm. What the hell? I feel like I have been punched hard on my stomach when he breaks eye contact with me and looks down at her. The warmth in his expression is unmistakable. “Xael?” I ask, utterly confused. His Beta and the rest of the entourage avoid my eyes. I can hear the whispers around me as Fiona tags on my gown. She wants me to pull myself together. I don’t look at her but look questioningly at my husband instead as my wolf stirs inside. Diana is extremely possessive of Xael, and he knows it. He removes her arm around his and takes a step towards me. He tries to make eye contact to connect, but his wolf feels distant. Usually, I run into his arms and get whisked off my feet to our chambers. Something in the back of my mind tells me that is the thing of the past. I take a step back while Fiona runs into his arms. “Brother! Welcome back.” She usually greets after me. I think she is trying to diffuse this awkward situation. “Diana. Who is she?” I ask my wolf. She should have managed to connect with his by now. “Gwen is my mate.” I completely freeze when his wolf speaks. The pride in his voice as he makes the declaration is hard to miss. Everyone gasps, while my head spins and my feet get wobbly. This is the day I feared and hoped would never come. I move back when he suppresses his thrilled wolf and tries to hold me. That’s when his mate moves forward and kneels before me. “Your Highness.” I turn around and head back inside without acknowledging her or him. I am doing my best to block his voice as he calls my name and the whispers around me. Both my heart and my head are pounding. He found his mate and brought her here, for what? This is what I feared about marrying him. I turned down his proposal five times, but he insisted and assured me. I gave up on the plans I had after varsity to be his Luna. I am pacing in my chambers trying to make sense of it all. “His mate is here. Now what?” Diana asks. “I don’t know. Let me think.” “I am not sharing. I never share,” she roars. “Just let me think!” I snap. I completely freeze when strong hands snake around my waist. I did not even hear him walk in. He plants a kiss on my neck and tighten his grip when I try to move away. “Xena, talk to me.” I try to get off his embrace to no avail. His whole demeanor is getting on my nerves. “I don’t think the talking needs to come from me, Xael.” He lets out a sigh and explains. “Gwen is my mate, but that’s it. We saved her from some rogues on our way back. She refused to mate with some Beta and left her pack. She is in danger out there and can be used to blackmail me. That is the reason I brought her here. I swear I will have nothing to do with her.” I shrug, use all my energy to free myself from his arms and head towards the door. Diana is mad. She becomes impulsive when mad and I can’t stand being so close to him right now. “Xena!” he calls behind me. I stop at the door and turn to look at him. “You did not ask me before making a decision, Xael. She is already here. Nothing I say will make a difference.” I don’t know what he expects me to say. “Don’t be like this,” he says right when the Gamma arrives. “Luna, the hospital called. Beta Rebecca’s condition is worse. They have asked that you come urgently.” I nod at her and head towards the front exit. I can hear his footsteps behind me, but I don’t turn to look. I can’t believe that this day has turned out like this. “I will drive you there,” he says while I shake my head. “No need.” My heart breaks as I utter the words I never though I ever would. Being around Xael has always been the highlight of my day, not now. “Xena,” he calls to me softly. Can’t he see that I don’t want him around me? I ignore him and step outside, right when my bundle of joy jumps off the car in front. Eight years old now and exactly like his father. Even the way he walks is him. He runs into my arms and greets. “Mother!” I plant a kiss on his cheeks. “Hi, Honey. I am going to the hospital to see Beta Rebecca.” “Ok, Doctor Luna, my hero mom,” he nods and teases before running into his father’s arms. “Father!” “My Xaden. You have grown!” I head to the car and block Xael’s voice as he prays our very thrilled son. I can’t help wondering where he has placed his mate as I drive out of the castle. Not that it matters. I have to think of my way forward. It is two hours later by the time Beta Rebecca is stabilized and airlifted to the intensive care unit. I have over five missed calls from Xael by the time I get into my office and take a seat to think. I am heartbroken that things have turned out this way. I am angry that he did not call to give me a heads up about this. I just had to find out with multitudes of our pack members around us. I can be angry all I want, it does not change the fact that he found his mate. His wolf will always choose his mate. That is their nature. He can try to suppress his wolf, but he will be miserable. It will be cruel for me to keep him away from his mate. It is better for us to divorce and cut all ties. I turn on the desktop, search for the pack’s divorce policy and print out the forms. It should be an easy process because I only want custody of our son. He and Gwen are stil young. They will have their own pups. I hope he does not fight me on this. Xael and Xaden are playing outside when I get back. Their laughter fills the air and make me smile. They look so happy. Xael is a good father and Xaden adores him. It will be cruel to separate them. Now what, Xena?
