My initial reaction is to hold Xena and cover her head. Our life together plays in my head like a movie. How the hell did I hurt her? I should have rejected Gwen the day we met. She is not worth the pain I have caused Xena.
“Babe, I am so sorry for the stupid things I did. I will fix it,” I whisper to her.
I don’t let her when she tries to lift her head. Whatever comes will have to hit me first. I will take all the impact and hope she makes it. Our pack and Xaden will be fine as long as she is alive.
“Xael, it’s okay,” she whispers back.
I have been freaking out about the accident and did not even notice that the driver recovered in time, and we are back on the road.
“Are you okay?” Xena whispers again. She is not angry anymore. Concern is written all over her face.
