I was young when I first got the job. I knew people that worked at the palace. It was stable, it provided a living, and as a young girl in Scotland in the 1950’s it was one of the best places you could get a job at. I over saw several royal children. King Kenneth had five children at the time. Four daughters. None of whom could inherit the throne.
Then, Declan’s father was born. It was at the same time my son was born.
The two of them grew up in totally different worlds. Prince Clairon got to spend time with me, taking care of him. My son---Darrow---all he saw was me workin’ my fingers to the bone while they lived in luxury. He hated the royals. When he turned eighteen he left and went traveling for a bit.
