The new gym sounds good; the men, especially in winter, need someone to let off steam. The ranch hands work hard and have little downtime. Some are old school and are happy to put in the extra when needed; others work to the time allotted and rarely a moment longer unless there is no way around the extra time, and then make sure they get paid. I don't blame them, but it can be a one-way street sometimes; we give a lot, and they take it.
Times are changing, and people like Grandpa are finding it hard. But at least he is trying. His move to put in a gym with a small indoor pool and other niceties shows he cares and is willing to adapt to the changing times.
I sat and listened to the conversation around the table, and another change was these training sessions.
