Beckett’s POV I look down at the little girl who is examining the shell with so much joy I want to buy everything on the stall behind us just so she keeps smiling like she is. Suddenly, she drops the shell to her chest and turns toward me throwing her arms around my waist in a sudden, fierce hug, catching me properly off guard. 'Thank you,' she says, muffled slightly against my shirt. 'This is the best present ever.' Something in my chest cracks open at her words, and I hold her carefully, memorising the moment, uncertain how many more like it I'll actually get to properly earn. 'You're very welcome,' I manage, voice rougher than I intend. She pulls back eventually, still beaming, one hand drifting up to touch the small shell resting against her collarbone.
