I quickly passed beyond the furthest point I’d ever explored. In no time at all I was in unfamiliar territory, well beyond the boundary of Damien’s estate. I was totally on my own now. I pushed myself to keep running until I made it up and over a steep giant hill. At the bottom on the other side I finally rested, putting my hands on my knees and gasping for air. I wasn’t out of shape by any means, but I’d just run a lot further and a lot harder than I ever did at the gym. I got my breath back and began to walk, figuring I could still put some distance between me and the house without wearing myself out as much.
