Chapter 4: Commotion in the Clubhouse Elsie’s POV The long afternoon slowly turned into a dark evening. I stayed completely inside my small bedroom, sitting on the edge of the mattress, staring at the blank walls, and trying to plan my escape. The expensive new camera sat untouched on the bed right next to me. I did not want to touch it. I refused to give those men the satisfaction of using their expensive gifts. Doing what they wanted made me feel weak, and I wanted to remain strong. Then, a strange noise started. It began with loud, angry voices outside the main door of the suite. There were deep shouts and the sound of heavy boots running fast down the long hallway. Outside the building, the deep, thunderous rumble of many motorcycle engines started up all at once, making the windows rattle. Something bad was happening. I stood up quickly and pressed my ear against the cool wood of the bedroom door. In the living area, the three brothers were moving very fast. I heard Dean’s deep, booming voice barking out harsh orders to his brothers. Collin was speaking quickly and sharply to someone on his phone, his tone full of anger. Even Jeremy sounded completely tense, his usual mocking laugh gone. Suddenly, my bedroom door flew open with a loud bang. Dean stood in the doorway, his large face hard as stone. “Stay inside,” he ordered, his voice cutting through the noise. “Lock the door behind me. Do not come out no matter what you hear.” Before I could even open my mouth to ask what was going wrong, he turned around and vanished. The main suite door slammed shut with a massive crash, and I heard the heavy metal lock turn from the outside. I was trapped all over any. The commotion outside grew louder and louder. I rushed over to the window and peeked through the thick iron bars, my hands gripping the cold metal. Down in the yard, several motorcycles were parked messily in the dirt. Men wearing leather vests with the Iron Reapers club patches were shouting, cursing, and running toward the gates. Through the darkness, I could see that someone was bleeding heavily. A massive fight had broken out in the compound—not just a small argument, but something incredibly serious. Suddenly, I heard the sound of glass breaking somewhere downstairs in the clubhouse. Then, two sharp, loud cracks echoed through the night. Gunshots. My heart slammed against my ribs like a trapped bird. I backed away from the window immediately, my whole body shaking with pure terror. Minutes felt like long, painful hours. I paced back and forth across the small bedroom floor, fear and curiosity battling inside my head. Were they under attack by a rival club? Was the compound falling apart? Was this my chance to run away? I walked over to the bedroom door and rattled the handle with all my strength, but it was still locked tightly from the outside. I could not get out. More shouting echoed from the hallway. There was a loud, crashing sound, and then someone roared out in pure pain. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I heard heavy, hurried footsteps coming back toward the suite. The main lock clicked open. The door swung wide, and all three brothers stormed back into the room. They looked wild, dangerous, and completely covered in the marks of battle. Dean had bright red blood dripping from his thick knuckles. Collin’s dark shirt was torn completely down the front, showing his tattooed chest. Jeremy had a deep, nasty cut right above his eyebrow that was bleeding down the side of his face. They were breathing heavily, their bodies alive with adrenaline. Jeremy saw me standing frozen in the bedroom doorway and let out a dark, breathless laugh. “Miss us, sugar?” “What happened?” I asked, my voice shaky and small. Collin wiped a smear of blood from his split lip with the back of his hand. “A rival club tried to hit our compound. They didn’t get very far.” Dean walked straight toward me, his massive frame towering over me in the small doorway. He was breathing hard, his huge chest rising and falling rapidly. He looked me up and down with sharp eyes, as if he were carefully checking to make sure I was still there and completely unharmed. “You stayed put,” he said, his deep voice sounding almost pleased with me. “Good girl.” I stepped back away from him, hating how close he was. “I didn’t have a choice. You locked me in.” Jeremy wiped the wet blood from his cheek with his sleeve and grinned, showing his teeth. “That’s right, little photographer. And you’re going to keep being a good little prisoner while we go clean up the rest of this mess.” Collin dropped heavily onto the leather couch, still panting from the fight. His intense, dark eyes locked onto mine from across the room. “This is exactly why you cannot leave this place, Elsie. The world outside is dangerous. Out there, people want you dead because of what you saw. Here… we keep you safe.” I wanted to argue with him. I wanted to scream at them and tell them that they were the real danger to my life. But seeing them like this—covered in blood, breathing hard from protecting their home—made something strange and toxic twist deep inside my chest. They were violent men. They were cruel captors. But tonight, they had fought like monsters to protect their family. And whether I liked it or not, they now looked at me as part of what they had to protect. I turned away from them and walked back into my bedroom without saying another single word. I closed the door completely and leaned my back against it, my heart still racing fast. Outside, the loud commotion in the compound slowly died down into a quiet murmur. But inside me, a new storm was only getting stronger. I was starting to fear the day when I no longer wanted to run away from them.
