"Cassius noted, in what he described as a secondary observation, that Alaric occasionally spoke to someone Cassius couldn't perceive. He attributed it to the Realm's effects on a child's developing mind. Children placed in isolating magical environments sometimes develop — he called them 'resonant presences.' Companions that may or may not be externally real." Aldric exhaled slowly.

"Cassius may not have been able to perceive Vael. If Vael was working with the Realm's own frequencies rather than against them," he stopped again.
"I'm speculating. What I know is that Vael has been in contact with Alaric, and that Alaric has likely been told a story about what he is and what his transformation means. I don't know what that story say
