The second morning, I found Erica in the training yard with Thea.
"Your Sight is a gift," Thea said. "But gifts need training. Control. Focus."
She held up a dark purple crystal. "Look at this. Really see it. Tell me what you observe."
Erica's eyes went white as her Sight activated. After a moment, she said,
"It's... suffering. Compressed pain turned into power."
"Exactly. Dark magic is parasitic. It feeds on pain." Thea held up a silver crystal.
"Now look at this. Moonbane."
Erica switched focus. "This one's different. Clean. Protective. It doesn't reach out like the dark one does."
"Good!" Thea smiled.
"Your mother created Moonbane by understanding this difference. Now let's see if you can do the same."
They trained for hours.
