I'd never known cold like the daggers that stabbed at me as I shot up to the surface for a gulp of air before diving back into the blackness. It had been too long. The burning in my lungs pushed me forward as I held each breath as long as possible. I searched blindly in the dark sky and the blacker water, while the hope of finding her alive slipped further with each moment that passed.
