Deacon gave her a weak smile as if he didn't know what to do any more than she did, and she wondered if he regretted bringing her back to his room. “I just checked in yesterday, so I'm not settled into any one spot," he said as he gestured to the beds. He moved over to a table by the window at the front of the room, looking out at the depressing parking lot. “You can have your pick of beds, either the one closest to the john, or by the door. I sleep pretty light, so I'll hear anything that might happen through the night." He shrugged. “Habit left over from the Army. I doubt your boss will bother us tonight, however."
