Jason’s POV
The doorbell rings and I reach out to get it still wondering who is at the door because after Vic left here two hours ago, I went to bed with no intention of receiving anyone for the rest of day.
“Good evening Sir Jason”
“Yes. Who are you and how can I be of help to you?”
“Ok. I’m Parker from your dad’s office”
“Ok. I’ve heard you and you can go now” I try to shut the door but stop when he pulls out a parcel from his pocket
“Aitt but your Dad sent me to give this to you” Parker stretches the white parcel to me
“What’s in here?” I probe eyeing him skeptically then collect the parcel
“I can’t possibly know that if don’t open it”
“Alright, you can leave now” I shut the door and open the parcel
“What?”
“This can’t be happening. Why would Dad do such a thing to me?”
“This isn’t fair. I need to call my Mum right now”
I dash upstairs to get my cell and quickly place a call to my mum
“Hello Mum, why would you allow Dad do that to me?”
“What are you talking about son?”
“C’mon Mum don’t do that with me. You know what the hell I’m talking about”
“I don’t know son but whatever it is please, calm down and tell me then we can try to sort it out son”
I sigh still boiling with rage
“Ok I’ll tell you Mum”
“Go ahead I’m all ears son”
“Dad just seized the house he got me for my last birthday”
“What?”
“But why?”
“I have no idea. Maybe you’re in a better position to tell me why”
The line goes dead for a few second and then she says
“Maybe you should come home so we can talk about it dear. I’m truly sorry about this son”
The call disconnects and I head upstairs to get dressed so I can leave for the family mansion.
I’ve been living in this private 2 bedroom detached duplex since last summer after Dad gifted it to me as birthday present for my birthday. I usually stay here all through the weekdays and solemnly do go for weekends at the family mansion so that I can do whatever I want under my own guide. Leaving this condo for home will be so a very difficult thing to do as I’ve gotten used to enjoying the freedom that comes with living alone as a high school student if Mum fails to make Dad have a change of heart about this cruel decision of his. Well, let’s watch out and see how everything goes for now.
Mr. Allen’s POV
It’s half past 6 and I just arrived home. Kalila will be so mad at me but I got her something to apologize. Maybe she will acknowledge my apology and accept it or worse still reject. Let’s see
“Hello is my princess home?!”
“Welcome sir, what would you like to have for dinner?” The cook walks up to ask
“The usual”
“Is my daughter home?”
“Yes sir” One of my security comes to help me with my briefcase and suit but I politely decline so he steps back
“Nevermind, I’ll handle this myself”
I opt for the stairs and begin to climb clumsily
“Daddy!” I pause to see Kalila descending down the stairs with a huge smile and my face lit up like a bulb
“Yes, my princess”
“Welcome home” She draws close and pulls me into a tight hug
“Someone’s going to choke her Dad to death tonight” I teased when the hug was taking longer than I expect
“Of course I ought to for staying all day at work and making me miss you so bad” She says with a grin, unwrapping her arms from my shoulders
“Well I’m sorry Miss but you can’t do that” I jokingly say in a baritone voice
“Says who?”
“Says the King” She collects the briefcase and we both continue to climb the stairs
“Why will the king then leave the princess all alone in the palace?”
“The King never leaves the princess alone in the palace. He instead leaves her in the care of the Queen, the princes, maids and servants”
“But what happens when the King has no Queen or Princes and the princess doesn’t want to be left in company of the maids and servants?”
“Then I guess the princess needs to get herself a prince” Kalila giggles while I look away in regret wishing I had said something else in response to her tricky question
“So in essence you’re saying I can get myself a boyfriend now right?”
“Boyfriend? Well certainly yes but I didn’t say that subjectively”
“Don’t panic Dad I didn’t take your word for it. I mean you should know that I’m way smarter than that” She says and I hear myself gasp for air
“Thank you. I guess needed to hear that real bad” Kalila burst into a wild laughter and I couldn’t help but chuckle
“I sure did almost gave you a heart attack huh?”
“Almost isn’t the word. You did gave me a heart attack Kalila”
Kalila’s POV
Have you ever made a promise to your Dad? Well I did a year ago after I got out of a very toxic relationship with my first boyfriend Jeff. After therapy, Dad then made me promise him that I wouldn’t get into any relationship again until I was done with high school and had me transferred to Hilton college just to mitigate the effects of that bad relationship on me. Well, I’m better now and I hope to keep my promise that’s why I tricked Dad into having this conversation with me to see his reaction.
“Hello, are you with me Kalila?”
“Yes Dad”
“But I asked you a question and you didn’t answer me”
“Really? I’m sorry your question was what?”
“I asked if you have had dinner”
How do I say yes without having to lie or have him make me eat? I better tell him the truth and have him decide what to do next after scolding me because he will eventually still get to hear the truth from the cooks if I lie and that would be very fatal.
“No and don’t ask me why”
“Why?”
“Don’t do this Dad. I just asked you not to ask me why”
“I’m sorry I can’t help it but please tell me why”
We are now at the doorway leading to the bedroom so I sigh wearily and answered
“Because I’m not hungry”
“You’re never hungry Kalila and I’m not disputing that but you need to eat to survive the night”
“Well in that case I’ll just have to die because I’m not having dinner tonight” I gait to his bedroom and place his briefcase on the giant table at the center of the room then made to leave but he walks in just in time and says
“Kalila you don’t have to have dinner tonight if you don’t want to but I want you to sit with me at table. I have something important to discuss with you dear” I nod and leave for my room with no intention of going downstairs again till the next morning.
***NEXT MORNING***
A knock sounds on the door and I roll over with sleepy eyes to continue my sleep then it sounds again
“Who is there?” I called rolling down the bed in my pajamas to get the door
“It’s me your father. Open up I’m running late for work”
“Good morning princess. Hope you slept well?”
“Yes Dad. Good morning”
“I just wanted to check up on you to see if you’re fine since you refused to come down last night for dinner”
“Oh Daddy! I’m sorry. It wasn’t intentional I was too weak to come downstairs yesterday”
“It’s alright.”
“Here, I was hoping to give this to you yesterday but unfortunately you couldn’t come downstairs”
“OMG Dad you’re the best! And I love you so much”
It’s a pair of sneakers. The very type Nike launched a week ago. I was actually admiring those pairs the day it was launched and I never knew Dad was paying attention to it too. Now look what that has brought me; A whooping $5000 worth of shoes.
“I love you too dear. See you later”
“Ok Dad. Let me go ahead and prepare for school”
I run to the closet to get my uniform ready then went to take a cold shower afterwards.
Now fully dressed, I cascade the stairs grab my breakfast and in less than 7 minutes, I was in the car with the driver going to school.
Bryan’s POV
The injury I sustained from the fight the previous day couldn’t let me sleep at night because of the pains but I was able to get some sleep after taking painkillers and this morning I feel much better. I’m here waiting for Amy who is now taking so long since we both always walk to school together even though Mum asked me to stay back home until I’ve fully recovered but I insisted on coming. Why should I skip classes because of a minor injury as this? It’s just not worth staying home for.
“Why did you take so long Amy?”
“Nothing just a little delay while having breakfast man” Amy explains increasing his pace as we left for school
“You foodie will make us both late for school now.”
“Well let’s go. I’m sorry”
“Good of you to have simply apologized instead of talking s**t as usual”
“I’ve got better things on my mind to do today in school so why talk s**t” Amy says and I turned to ask
“Things like what bro?”
“Things we ought to do bro”
“Hurry up man! Time is against us” Amy said and I jog off to catch up with him, having left me behind a couple of steps.
I do not know why I seem to have a bad feeling about today and I didn’t realize it until I heard Amy say those words. Should I go back home instead or just stay? Well, whatever it is, I’ll pull through.
