The building was officially closed, but I'd learned which doors had faulty locks and how to avoid security camera angles—skills I'd never expected to need before coming to Ashwick. The restricted section was quiet and dark except for my small desk lamp, surrounded by books about medical regulation and corporate responsibility. I was completely absorbed in research when I heard footsteps approaching through the stacks. "You're breaking curfew," Alexander said, emerging from the shadows like he'd been specifically looking for me. "Security does random sweeps of campus buildings after midnight."
