It was long after everyone had left— the customers who had once formed a line out the door were gone. The shelf of trays, normally full and waiting to be taken home, was empty of pastries, and the steaming pots of coffee had long run dry, when a knock on the door pulled all of us out of our baking moment. Truth be told, something as simple as baking with Grim and my mother made me so happy— a truly rare moment these days— that I barely even realized how quickly the time went.
