I took my time. I made it a point to take careful little steps and even slower, smaller steps when I retrieved the basket of bread from where I left it and made my way back to his room at snail’s speed. Thankfully, Grim didn’t follow me, but I did feel that small pull on our connection, a constant tug that was almost probing. He was checking where I was and if I was okay. It wasn’t invasive but rather comforting, like a reminder that even when we’re apart, we’re never completely separated from each other.
