614 Words
Preparations For The Marriage I got ninety-nine problems and you ain't one of them. Anil's P O V : I always wondered about weddings. There were so many things I thought about countless times in my head. I tried very hard to sleep but I couldn't. I wasn't sure whether Varun was actually a good guy or not. I wasn't sure if he could really take care of my didi. That wasn't the only reason why I couldn't sleep. Lately, all of us were busy with preparations and I was seeing more and more of Varun. There was something about him that kept me hooked and intrigued. The way he rolled up his sleeves, the way he occasionally bites his lips, the way he ruffled his hair, I was beginning to notice all these little things more and more. Sometimes I felt as if there was more in his eyes than I was seeing. Nonetheless, I just hoped he would take good care of my didi and treat her well. I groaned loudly and turned to the other side of the bed. I plugged in my earphones and started listening to some of my favorite songs. Finally, that did the trick and I slept. I woke up hearing some noise outside and rubbed my eyes. Can't a person sleep peacefully in this house ? I went to check and saw my cousins and aunts. What are they doing here ? Don't tell me they are here for the marriage. There is still a month for the marriage. They can't live a month with us. I can't live a month with this many people. I was thinking about all this in my head when one of my younger cousins ran towards me yelling bhaiya ( a term used for older brothers ). I knew my nightmares had begun. I brushed my teeth and did my morning routines. Since everyone needed to use bathrooms and we only had two bathrooms, I had to do everything hurriedly. I couldn't even shower thoroughly. Since mom couldn't make breakfast for fifteen people, I went to bring some breakfast. After enjoying Idli with chutney, Papa and I went out. The first stop was the card printing shop and then we went to some furniture store and selected a few. After spending almost the entire day outside, moving from one store to another, both of us returned home in the evening. I was dead tired by then and in need of a desperate bath. After a good shower, I ate my dinner and went to sleep early. The last few weeks have been nothing but hell, according to me. Our house was packed with relatives, all of us were working our ass off for the marriage and most importantly, I couldn't get a single moment of peace. I was currently on my way to the Malhotras Residence to bring the auspicious Mehndi ( henna ). According to my mama, applying mehndi to bride and groom gives them blessings from the Gods. Also, it is believed that the darker the color of the henna, the deeper the love of the husband for the wife. I was half-way on my way when suddenly my phone rang and I ignored it. But then it rang again and I saw it was mama. I picked up the phone and groaned in annoyance when she told me Varun's younger brother was already at our house with Mehndi. I hung up the phone and looked around. I was already far away from home, so I thought why not take advantage of this situation? I went on a ride and spent the next two hours riding the motorcycle.
