Claire’s “Grandpa!” I called out joyfully as I stepped out of the van. All the exhaustion from the trip melted away the moment I saw him standing there, waiting for me. He looked older, sure—but still just as charming and handsome as I remembered. He was standing at the front entrance of the mansion, cane in one hand for support, a wide grin stretched across his face as I approached. He pulled me into a tight hug, and I hugged him back just as hard. He may be old now, but he’s still strong—probably from all the hard work he did in his younger years. He’s always been such a hardworking man. “You’ve grown so much, my dear. I almost didn’t recognize you. If it weren’t for your voice, I would’ve thought an angel just called out to me,” he said with a twinkle in his eyes, clearly emotional.
