I can’t believe how good this burger is. I have only ever had one in my life, and I had to sneak it. Father would forbid me from eating almost anything delicious. I did manage to sneak stuff at school for lunch, but then I would get snitched on, which would lead to being beaten.
The burger is juicy and flavorful, with all the fixings. The juice runs down my chin and onto my shirt. “Oh no,” I giggle. Austen is barely eating while he watches me. I continue to eat when Andre walks up to us. I tune out what they are saying until Austen mutters angrily. I set my food down. “What?”
“The Council has made a decision about you,” he tells me, and I gulp. "It will be okay.”
