Maddox POV
“Yes… I was there. My wife… she—” the voice faltered slightly, “—my first wife gave birth to Maddox. And shortly after… I discovered Maddox was not my biological son.”
Maya instantly paused the recording.
I froze. My hand tightened around hers.
“He sounds like he’s being judged. Should the person questioning him be a lawyer?” Maya asked.
“That’s very reasonable. Seems like it,” I said.
“Then if it’s a lawyer… that’s crazy. What the hell did my dad do?” I said.
Maya held my hands, trying to calm me.
I nodded.
She unpaused the recording.
The lawyer’s voice was sharp, cutting through the room. “You realized he was not your son, and yet… you stayed with him?”
Damien isn’t my father?”
My heart froze.
“Chill. We can’t judge yet—let’s listen to the end,” Maya said.
