Her head was pounding. Never in her life did she have a headache quite as bad as this one and she struggled to open her eyes against the pain behind them. The sound of shuffling feet nearby made her blink and she found herself trying valiantly to focus on the ceiling above her. It was old popcorn ceiling and the more she stared at it, she was vaguely aware it was not what the ceiling in her luxurious hotel room looked like. She pushed a hand to her forehead and heard a whispered, “shh” as someone approached and put a cold cloth to her forehead. Recollection of her walking out the side door of Sarre’s hotel after their fight was marred by a darkness which overtook her before she’d even stepped out of the alley.
