Elysandre's POV I am not very happy because I just lost to Charlie at chess. I am starting to wonder if he really lost his memory, because someone who has lost his cannot be this good at chess. On the other hand, I know that if he were good at chess before, he would still remember all the moves that he has learned. It makes me feel like he is from a wealthy family. Don't rich people always make their children the best at everything? They are never satisfied until their children are number one in everything. They have to learn harder to have to be everything that their parents wanted to be when they were younger. That is normally the case when people are wealthy, and they were not the best at everything when they were younger. I was just pressured to be the best at everything because my parents knew that I was their only hope of being the one who would save the family business, and my sister would be the pretty one who is always in magazines and giving them the fame they wanted. "Don't be mad, you cannot always win," Charlie says. "I am not mad! You cheated," I say. Charlie only shakes his head and smiles. We are ready to go to bed when I see torches in the night. It can be hunters, but hunters know better than to come out in the snowstorm. We do not have a fire going, and all my curtains are closed because there are certain rules that you have to follow in these mountains. My grandfather always said to close your windows, close your curtains, and lock your doors. Do not listen if somebody calls your name. Do not whistle. Do not go into the woods at night, and if you have to go into the woods at night, make a big fire. If you hear something following you, just take the home and get out of there as quickly as possible. I know that older people have all kinds of silly beliefs, but tonight I am glad I followed those rules. Charlie and I freeze. We look at each other, and Charlie moves slowly to his room to get his gun. We hear men's voices outside. "Listen, I am telling you, you have only hired me to bring you through these woods. I am not going to that cabin. I'm telling you that the cabin is haunted. You don't pay me enough to be out here tonight. I don't like going out into these mountains at night. I am telling you, the Rockerdale mountain range is very dangerous. There are things in these mountains that you do not know about, and the least of our worries now is the ghost in that cabin," I hear an older man say. "Do not be stupid. There is no such thing as werewolves, ghosts, and shape shifters. We have to find Don Falco. This is the only cabin around here where he might have come hiding," another man says. "I don't know who Don Falco is, but I don't know what you want with him. I hope you are not going to kill him because all of you are carrying guns. Anyway, I don't care what you want with him, as long as you pay me. But I'm telling you, I'm not going close to that cabin. The old man used to stay there alone after his wife passed away. They say his granddaughter found him a few days later. He was dead in his bed, and they say he is haunting this cabin. Everybody who is going into this cabin will get hurt," the older man says again. "I already told you that what we want with him has nothing to do with you. I am going into that cabin because I cannot return without him. I may just lose my life," the other guy says. "Well then, you go into that cabin without me. I will be standing here, and I will take you back to town if you come out there alive. I have never heard about somebody going into that cabin and coming out alive. Many had disappeared, never to be seen again." The old man tells tales! I have indeed found my grandfather's body in this cabin. After I couldn't get a hold of him for a few days. I was very sad. It was not nice to find my grandfather's body in this cabin. However, my grandfather would never hurt anybody. Just thinking of it makes me sad, but I refuse to let the dishonor day be a sad moment. I am not going to think about it. That is why I came here, because I feel closer to my grandparents here. Charlie pulls open the curtains to take a peek. I go stand beside him, and all we can see is the one guy and the older man. However, if they look up, they will only see Charlie. Charlie has his gun ready in case they come too close. "There has never been anybody in this cabin for years. I don't know why you think he will come and hide here. It must be dirty inside, and somebody as wealthy as you will not stay here, so why would you? From the photo you showed me, he looks richer than..." the older man says, but he does not finish his sentence. He looks up, and his face is pale. He starts to walk backward and trips over a log, but he does not stop. He jumps up and points to the window, and keeps walking backwards. "Ahhhhhhh!!!!! Look in the window! It is old man Moreau, I told you the old man is haunting the cabin!" the older man shouts as he starts running. He turns around and books it. I have never seen an older man run that fast. I am sure he could outrun Usain Bolt! "Wait! Where are you going? You have to take us out of these woods," the other younger man shouts. "Nope! I am not staying here. I love my life, and I have a family," the older man shouts without looking back. "s**t! We will have to follow the old geaser, or else we are stuck here," the younger man shouts to his men. They start running after the older man. As I disappear into the night, I start laughing. "Damn, I did a good job. You look like a ghostly old man," I laugh as I hold my tummy. Charlie doesn't seem amused at first, but then he starts laughing, and for the first time, I hear him laugh out loud. "I don't believe those guys are going to catch that old man, but luckily, they can follow his footsteps. However, I think we have to prepare because they will be back tomorrow," Charlie says.
