Elinor was pretty clear about her feelings towards her mother. They were estranged and not important to each other. That conclusion wasn't baseless and Elinor took quite a lot of time to come up to that. However, everyone did not have the luxury of having a sorted life like hers.
The next morning, Elinor switched on her phone and was taken aback by the number of messages piled on the screen. They were from the same unknown number, a couple from sales companies and a few from the friends group.
Elinor flipped the phone upside down on the bed and went to wash up. As she brushed her teeth, her mind kept running over the ruined night. Crying last night had messed her up and in the end she fell asleep without realising. Raden must have brought her to bed.
