Rachael’s scream tore me out of the pain like a blade through flesh.
One second I was lost inside myself and the next, her voice ripped through the room, raw and terrified. My head snapped up instantly. I was on my feet before my mind could catch up, my body reacting on instinct alone.
“Rachael.”
I turned toward her, my heart slamming violently against my ribs. She was doubled over, her face twisted, her hands clutching her stomach as if she could hold herself together by force.
