Layla’s POV The pressure and pain make me gasp and flinch back. I jerk my arm out of Camila’s hold, and instead of even thinking to check on me, Alexander immediately fusses over Camila. He wraps her in his arms again, checking that she’s alright before they both turn to look at me. “I’m sorry,” Camila apologizes piteously. “I was just terrified of the pain. You see, I was abused by rogues as a child and pain just brings back so many terrible memories.” The wide eyed, pitiful expression is meant to tug on my heartstrings, but it does nothing except irritate me. “I-I didn’t mean to disobey you, Delta Layla,” Camila says innocently, grabbing my arm again.
