CHAPTER THIRTEEN
“Why did you oversleep even after I woke you up a million times?” Mum complained, her hand on her waist. The smell of the pancakes she was cooking was tantalizing, making my stomach rumble but I was running late and Peggy had already sent Leon to come pick me up. The poor girl was still hurting over the recent bad turn of her life and who could blame her? It would be hard for her to recover from it. Maybe I should have told her.
“A million times? Isn’t that an exagg-watch out!” I screamed while racing towards her at the same time. It turns out, she had been standing too close to the cooker and her apron caught fire. She jumped slightly to the side and without thinking, I attempted to pat the fire with my hands but instead of stopping, it began spreading.
