CHAPTER EIGHT
I put away the last of the used dishes on the kitchen sink before walking back to the living room. It was hard to believe that we were now living on our own without Grandma breathing down our necks. Mum had secured a job at the town’s bakery earlier today while Thomas had passed his interview and tomorrow he would officially begin working. Grandma had not bothered contacting us and neither the Turners, Peggy’s parents.
“By the way, I talked to Mrs. Carter and so from tomorrow I’ll be working at the library after school,” I announced.
“But aren’t your mid-terms coming up?” Mum questioned.
“Yeah but right now we need the money. I can always study at the library and besides you do know I’m pretty brilliant,” I pointed out with a smile.
“As long as you keep your grades up, “Suddenly he grew serious,” Since we are on the topic of school, why did I receive a call from your teacher saying you got detention today?” How the hell did Thomas find out about the detention? Ugh! Snitches.
“It was nothing,” I shrugged.
“You got detention?” That was a very expected reaction from mum but then she turned her attention to Thomas,” How could you not tell me she got detention Thomas? I’m her mother for goodness’ sake,”
“Calm down mum. It was nothing, really,” I added, shifting weight anxiously from one leg to another. I had never been on the wrong side before and I had a feeling this was not going to go well.
Thank you so much Chase.
“Nothing? You don’t get to tell me it’s nothing young lady. Now you better start spilling before I make you,” her palms were plastered firmly against her hips, her eyes spitting fury.
“Um…I…”
“Come down Ann. Its only the first time she has ever gotten in trouble. Let her off the hook just this once and if she gets in trouble again, I won’t stop you,” Luckily Thomas came to my rescue.
“Fine but if you fail your mid terms, I’ll be the one to ground you and you more than anyone else know I’m not playing around,”
“Yes mum. I’ll keep my grades up. Now, I’m just going to go to sleep,” I said, already heading towards my room.
Now I’d have to wake up at five in the morning and study because the last thing I needed was being grounded. The moment I was inside my room, I let out a deep breath as I closed the door behind me only for me to stop breathing. A man I recognized too well was standing by my window, staring outside with his back on me.
“Ronald,” I breathed, feeling Katia wriggle inside me in rage, trying to come out.
“You should see the view of the town from here. Hmmm…perfect. It makes me just want to paint. Roman must have gotten it from me. Did your mother ever tell you that I loved to paint a lot? Those were happy times indeed,” he turned, his eyes barely visible under the hat.
“You better get scarce before I tear you into pieces,” The hatred I held for this man was undeniable.
“Don’t you think we should get along and talk? You are half demon and I’m a half demon,” he spoke casually.
“That is why you should be running. You ruined my life and now I have to deal with the consequences of what you did. I never asked for any of this,” It was getting hard to control Katia at this point and the old man seemed like he was not about to move out anytime.
“Don’t you see it? You are the most powerful creature of all times. A demon and a primordial werewolf? Come on dear, you gotta admit nothing can beat that,”
“You are right. Its not like I almost killed two people in one single night,”
“Hmm…That is very interesting. So how did it feel like? You know, when you had them powerless?” was he being serious right now? Even the fact that I almost ended Chase and Ian’s life didn’t make him flinch one bit. Just what kind of a man was he?
“Get out now Ronald,” I seethed.
“Not so fast. I have something you need,” he smirked.
“Right. Like I could need something from the man who is robbing me of my teen years,”
“Very funny but I’m the only one who can teach you how to control your demon side once its starts to become dominant. Also, remember the bracelet your brother gave you? I’m the one who knows how to get another one forged,”
“H-How do you know about the bracelet?” I questioned, wondering just how much stalking he had been doing.
“Because I gave it to him,” He answered.
“And you expect me to believe that?” I crossed my arms.
He sat down on my bed, crossing one leg over the other dramatically. For a second he just looked at me without saying a word but then he chuckled.
“You are so naïve Faith. Have you ever wondered why witches claim magic runs in their blood? Because it literally runs in their blood and once you learn that, you can do whatever you want. Those bracelets were made out of a witch’s blood, mixed with a very powerful demoness’s blood and a bit of that werewolf venom. See, these three combined were the reason as to why you could stop the hybrid in you from emerging,”
“W-what? Then why did it melt it off my wrist if it was that powerful?” I demanded.
“Isn’t it clear just yet? Your hybrid wolf is far from any ordinary hybrid. Its far too much powerful. Actually, powerful enough to make you the ruler of the underworld. Every single creature, from wolves, to demons, witches, vampires, name it, will have to bow down to you. You’ll have the world dancing on the tip of your fingers Faith and I’ll-“
“Stop! Just what are you talking about?” My voice was trembling in both dread and anger.
“What do you think was the purpose of a making an extraordinarily powerful hybrid? To rule the underworld and have every single supernatural being under our feet,”
“I don’t want it and if I were you, I’d be scarce before Katia rips right through these clothes,” I warned.
“Call me when you have a change of mind. Or better yet, I’ll find you,” he smirked as he stood up before he disappeared out of my window.
Rage. Confusion. Hatred. All flew through me at the same time, agitation taking over ever part of me. I needed to vent and as though on cue, I felt a sharp pain stub through me, tears streaming down my face as bones cracked painfully, rearranging. It felt like every part of me was breaking, more pain coursing through me with every suddenly lengthy second crawling by. The only thought that ran through my brain was bloody murder right before I gave in fully to the transformation.
