I watched as Gregory and two of the guards tried to drag Emery out of the atrium while I hugged, sobbing Anna. Layla asked why her mother was crying, but none of us knew what to say to a little girl who had no idea a great evil existed outside this building and in the form of a man programmed to love, cherish, and protect. I slowly moved backward toward the examination room where I had just come from a few minutes ago. I had just gotten my first ultrasound and was taking my new friend with me for support. I still can't get out of shock about the news; I heard two heartbeats. I was so surprised that I cried when I saw the little bloop on the screen, not sure what I was supposed to see.
