Sending gifts wouldn't work, right? The trial had proven that she was the least superficial person in the world, and a gift like that would only make her think that I still think of her as a gold-digger or something worse. I remember she would be as happy with an expensive necklace as with a flower I had just cut in the park because I wanted to give her something pretty. Besides, I had already given her almost all my material possessions, so it would be hard to give her something that she didn't have already or could get herself.
It would be so much easier if she answered her phone, but even after getting a new number, it has been impossible to contact her. When the phone rings, I hope it's her, even if I know my chances are really slim.
