Cassandra’s POV “Was anyone here with you?” Mom asked, her eyes darting around the room. “No… why?” I replied, giving her a skeptical look. “I thought I…” she trailed off, still glancing around. “Mom, is there a problem?” I asked, curious now. “Forget it, baby.” She smiled and walked over to my bed. She pushed the blanket aside and sat down next to me, her hand reaching for mine. “You know I love you, right?” “Mom—” I started, but she cut me off. “Had I been more careful, I would’ve noticed what you were going through at your old school.
