Monday night, I stood outside the Cathedral of Learning’s campus at eight twenty-five p.m., leaning against my Bentley with my arms crossed. Sierra should be relieved of classes in five minutes, and I wanted to be there when she was, so that stupid fucker ex-boyfriend of hers wouldn’t harass her. I tapped my fingers against my bicep and clenched my jaw, impatient. After I had brought Sierra home the other night, I couldn’t stop thinking about what she had told me, about how her ex had made her feel from a single one-sided conversation.
