My eyelids flicker open, and for a moment, I can't breathe. The air is thick and heavy, like molasses slowly crushing my chest. Panic claws at me, a desperate animal caged within my ribs. Where am I? It's not the soft embrace of my bed or the familiar scent of home. This place reeks of sulfur and forgotten shadows. Then I remembered I was in the Demon world. "Get up, Emma," I mutter to myself and force myself out of the bed. After I ate, I was thrown into this dark room, and the door was shut. I couldn't open it, no matter how many times I tried or how much I screamed for the Demon. There is no clock in this room, so I have no idea how much time has passed since I fell asleep. "Mother of the year," a voice hisses near me, making me jump. "Abandoning your child to dance with demons."
