The house was strangely quiet as she let herself in. She knew she only had a short window of time before Kostas was there. She’d purposefully said she was going to the office in front of him, though, it was entirely possible, quite probable, he, as rational as he typically was, would let her go. He had to know she was right. It was a lose-lose situation. Either way, one of them would wind up resenting the other. She stood in the middle of the kitchen looking around, willing herself not to cry. Her phone rang again, and she looked at it with confusion. Lyra. She’d had the number for her sister programmed for a long time. It had never once called her. She answered, “hello?” “Hi. It’s Lyra.” “What do you want? Now is not a good time.” “I wanted to apologize. Can we meet and talk? Please?
