I go into the small motel bathroom so I don’t disturb Bree too much while I talk to Carter. This time, it takes him longer to answer, but when he does, it’s immediately clear that he’s no longer at the party.
“I know I told you to keep your eyes out for a mate, but I meant your own mate, Drew, not someone else’s.”
His tone is chiding but not angry. He must be confused, but he’s still giving me the benefit of the doubt and I truly appreciate it.
