Her Parent's Fear

747 Words
Alaia was sitting at the dinner table with her family. But in all honesty, all she could think about was Jasper. She wanted to go back to him, after waking up this morning in each other’s arms, they played house for awhile. Made breakfast, showered together again, and then they were back in his bed. Alaia hadn’t wanted to leave but Jasper’s dad was on his way home and her’s was starting to wonder when she’d be home. So, after running by Stella pretending to just want to drop off the wig she’d given her, she’d hugged her and let her scent sink into her skin before coming home. Biting into her rare steak, Alaia looked up as her mother asked, “How were the festivities yesterday darling? I heard this little town makes quite the impression on Halloween.” Alaia grinned nodding, “I had fun. It was really nice, and surprisingly the town can throw a party.” Eric nodded as he looked at his daughter closely, “And this girl you spent the night with…what did you two do after?” Shrugging casually, Alaia forced herself to relax as she muttered, “Scary movies, a little girl talk, nothing to hype about.” Eric nodded as he kept watching his daughter but then Desmond asked, “And Jasper? It’s been awhile since we’ve seen your little “friend”.” Desmond smirked knowingly at his glowing niece, “Don’t tell me he’s already out of the running niece.” Alaia sent him a look knowing he knew something he shouldn’t, “Oh hush you.” Desmond laughed as Haven looked at her sister in law amused as she teased, “I was wondering the same thing.” Alaia pointed her fork at them like a weapon, “I will end you all.” Everyone laughed as dinner was finished. But there was something off and the head of the family knew it. And he had the means to find out what was going on. Eric had gone into in his study scowling as he found Stolvic looking uncomfortable. “She’s been with him?” He guessed making Stolvic nod uneasy, “Yes sir, she left this afternoon, went to this friend’s house for thirty minutes and then came home.” Eric wanted to be angry at his daughter’s crafty tendencies in one upping him. But he couldn’t help but be proud and a little surprised by her actions. Alaia had never felt it necessary to lie to him before, and knowing she was now left Eric feeling like he’d failed his daughter in some way. “Thank you Stolvic. You may retire for the evening.” When he was alone, Eric stewed on what to do before standing ready to go and confront his daughter. But his wife appeared and stopped him in his tracks. “What are you up to Eric?” Eric scowled at Sophia as he growled, “It seems your daughter has been lying to me. I want to know why.” Sophia peered up at Eric angry, “You know why.” Eric winced at the low jab and mumbled, “I haven’t been that bad.” Sophia exhaled tiredly at her husband’s antics, “You’ve kept her as a little princess in your tower and shut down any attachments she found in humans before. In this human, a simple “stay away” won’t work Eric.” Eric finally lost it on his wife as fear made him snarl, “And why not!? What could that weak pathetic human actually offer her!?” Sophia approached her husband slowly as she seriously predicted, “A family of her own one day.” Feeling his blood run cold, Eric was lost as Sophia whispered lovingly, “You’ve seen the way she’s come to life since being here. She’s in love with him Eric, she’s chosen her mate. You can’t ruin this for her, or she’ll never forgive you.” Eric looked at his wife as he voiced biggest his fears, “If he rejects her, it’ll kill her. She didn’t have more time to mature like the rest of you. She’s still a child in some ways!” Sophia sighed since she understood her husband’s fears and felt them herself. They’d kept Alaia in school, around kids that appeared her age for decades hoping she’d connect. And now that she finally had, it was more terrifying than her not. Leaning her forehead on his, Sophia whispered soothingly, “I know you want to protect her, but she has to do this on her own. She has us to be there for her if it happens. And who knows…maybe Jasper Wynter will be a surprise for us all.”
