On The Outside

Alaia was stuck to Jasper’s side after that. Even Arden moved into their place with William, and their grandfather got their barely used guest room. Jasper had not an issue when it came to his grandfather, they played chess and talked about Daniel’s life. Which was an exciting one full of adventures and meeting people. “Don’t worry,” Daniel told him one afternoon detailing his lavish life and travels, “You’ll learn and get to see all the wonders of the world. And unlike me, you won’t have to do it alone.” Jasper put a hand on his grandfather’s arm, “You don’t have to be alone now grandpa. I’m sure dad would love it if you stayed. Or just came around more.” Daniel wasn’t sure his son would. Since getting back from finishing mating with Arden, William had kept a distance between him and his father. Out of anger or spite, Daniel couldn’t tell. But he knew he needed to talk to his son soon. As the house of two became a house of five, they all seemed to settle into what felt almost normal dysfunctional. And other than being on the lookout for the newly turned Donny, they continued to go about life as normal. “Heads up.” William said tossing Jasper a blood bag as he filled his mug with some of his coffee. Jasper accepted it with a thanks and as he fed, William checked the time, “You ready for the SATs tomorrow?” Jasper rolled his eyes, “Going to crush it.” Arden gave him a high five, “Awesome, after we should go out and celebrate.” Alaia came in from her morning run with Daniel and both were laughing. “Hey what’s so funny?” Jasper asked kissing her cheek. Alaia grinned as she accepted a blood bag from Arden, “So a couple of college guys in the park thought Daniel was hitting on me right. Was mocking him for being older, how about he showed them up in a basketball game and sent those frat boys packing!” Jasper laughed giving Daniel a high five, “Way to go grandpa.” Daniel laughed as he said, “I still got it.” And as the five immortal beings all laughed and talked, a wolf sat watching. Yasmine had talked to Jasper for the past two weeks off and on. Checked on him to make sure he was okay, but as she could now see with her own eyes, he was just fine. Better than fine. Watching him and Arden get along made Yasmine feel jealous in a way she hadn’t before. But this woman now had a connection to her son she could never. And seeing as Jasper and William moved around the new addition of their family hurt. And maybe it was unfair, they hadn’t had to witness her moving on with her new family immediately. But here she was, rubbing salt in her wounds like a masochist. Yasmine wanted to go in, to force herself into the mix. But as the family of vampires all began to head out and get their day started, Yasmine just left again. Back to her family of wolves.
