Alaia had cried herself out. She’d spent the night scrubbing her skin raw of the scent of Donny, but even when her skin was red and she’d used every bottle of soap, she still smelt him.
It wasn’t because of the guilt she killed him. But because of the guilt Jasper saw her like that.
And she couldn’t make him unsee it now.
It took Haven and Sophia to help her out of her shower after the water started to prune her skin. As she laid in her bed crying her eyes out to her sister in law, Sophia was giving her husband the cold shoulder.
He had brought Jasper here as a test. And now, their daughter was broken.
Not to mention Jasper was not doing to good either.
He woke up alone in a cold room. It was dark so he couldn’t see but he felt like it was a freezer. And in his mind, in his now realizing his girlfriend and her family were monsters mind. He was scared they were preserving him. To eat? To drink from? To feed?
He wasn’t sure, but he knew like f**k he didn’t want to wait around to find out. Jasper was groggy as he sat up on a cot that felt more expensive than his bed.
Standing on numb feet, Jasper stumbled in his steps but when he thought he hit a door, it felt weird. Like glass.
He felt around blindly but felt no handle. And just when he was about to panic he was in some kind of box, the lights came on. Bright HD lights that shined brightly throughout the room.
Jasper had to blink to get the black dots out of his eyes and then let his eyes adjust slowly. But when they did, he could see now he was in the basement, in some kind of cage.
It was a weird one, one side of the room was completely blocked off by a wall. One made completely of some kind of thick glass, Jasper could feel a simple kick wouldn’t do s**t.
It’s door was even bigger and twice as thick with some kind of electronic keypad. One that weirdly looked like something that would be on a vault in a movie.
Looking around for some kind of clue on how to get out, Jasper jumped when he heard, “Jas…”
Turning slowly, Jasper looked at Alaia standing looking broken. She was pale, she had bags under her red rimmed eyes, and even worse? She was wearing his hoodie. One she’d stolen a couple weeks back and he had never asked for it back.
Jasper had never wanted to hug someone and run away at the same time before. “…Why am I here? What is this?” Alaia winced, “You…my dad made this for us a couple years back. Our cravings sometimes can overwhelm us.” Jasper paled, “Cravings for…”
Alaia was silent and Jasper sniffled, “Did you…why did you kill… I don’t understand.” And Alaia didn’t know how to explain, when her uncle came into the basement, the smell of Jasper’s fear hit them both hard.
Desmond held up his hands, “We’re not going to hurt you Jasper.” Jasper looked at Desmond in disbelief, “Says the person on the other side of the cage.”
Alaia winced as Desmond laughed awkwardly, “Fair point.” Both Jasper and Alaia gave him a look so he righted himself before grabbing a chair. Sitting down, Desmond told Jasper softly, “Jasper…what you saw wasn’t how you were supposed to find out,” shooting the wall an ugly look, Eric in the next room looking through the one way glass winced.
“But you know now, so you should know the truth, all of it.” Jasper looked at Desmond scared, “You all are vampires?” Desmond nodded slowly and Jasper began to laugh hysterically making Alaia wince as he spluttered, “Are you kidding me!” But when neither laughed, Jasper began to c***k.
Fighting tears Jasper looked at Alaia pleadingly, “Is this a joke? Please just…tell me this is just a really f****d up way you’re dad’s punishing me.” Alaia sniffled as she shook her head and Jasper looked at her conflicted on a number of levels.
“But I love you…I don’t…was it even real?” Alaia put her hand on the glass desperately, “It was! I can’t make people feel things Jasper.” Jasper looked at her angry, “Just lie to them?”
Alaia winced, “I didn’t want to lie. I never knew what we’d become. And then, and then you and me…we became something I never thought I’d have.”
Tears streaked Jasper’s face as Alaia pleaded for him to understand, “I’ve been struggling for weeks trying to figure out how to tell you. I didn’t want it to be like this.”
Jasper struggled to breathe through the lump in his throat and whispered, “What happens to me now?” Desmond looked at Jasper seriously, “We’re not going to do anything to you Jasper. We’re not monsters, we all care about you in some way.”
Nodding eagerly Jasper pleaded, “Good then let me out.” Guilty, Desmond wouldn’t look as he told Jasper calmly, “We can’t yet.” Jasper froze feeling terror grip his gut, “Why not?”
Alaia whirled facing her uncle alarmed, “Wh-.” Desmond put a hand on his niece to calm her down, “He saw you kill that boy. We can’t let him leave knowing what he does. Not if we can’t trust him not to-.”
Jasper slammed his hand on the glass wall loudly, “You think I give a f**k about that!?” He said in disbelief, “f**k Donny!” He shouted making Alaia jump. Jasper struggled to calm down as he pleaded, “Just let me go, please.”
Desmond sighed, “Kid-.” Jasper spluttered, “Come on Desmond what could I honestly tell people? You all are vampires?” Jasper laughed a little as he thought of it even though nothing was funny. “I’d be strapped up and sent to the nearest looney bin by the end of the week.”
Desmond agreed but he also knew what his brother had said.
So, he shook his head, “Sorry kid. But you’re staying put for right now. Until we know we can trust you to not go tweeting or make a YouTube page about us.”
Trembling, Jasper muttered, “And if you don’t think I can be trusted?” Desmond’s didn’t say anything, but his face did, and it freaked Jasper the hell out.
Desmond started to pull Alaia out of the room, but Jasper shook his head and began to bang on the door, “No, no you can’t leave me in here! What about my dad?”
Alaia couldn’t look at Jasper as he pleaded, “He’d be alone without me and he wouldn’t know why. Please, don’t leave me in here!” Desmond pulled Alaia out as Jasper told her not to leave him.
But she did crying as he broke down in fear and anguish.
Eric met his daughter in the hall and tried to comfort her, but she pushed him hard sending him crashing into a wall. Eric was shocked as his daughter launched at him growling, “This is all your fault!”
She began to pound her dad’s chest angry as she yelled, “Why did you bring him here! We were fine and you ruined everything!” Eric took the hits as his daughter cried, “You just couldn’t trust me to do this one thing on my own!”
Eric watched Alaia break down in her brother’s arms. Loren held his sister tight as she kept saying how Jasper hated her now, but she hated herself the most.
She was the monster and she had ruined Jasper’s life by loving him.
