William watched his son cuddling with Alaia on the couch asleep. They were cute together, and he had never seen his son happier around another person before. But that person was a vampire.
And while a lot myth and lore had been debunked and Jasper had assured his father, he was safe, William still found the whole thing baffling. He couldn’t see how his son was so okay with this, everything.
William had in a span of seventy-two hours discovered witches, vampires, and wolves were not only real. But his ex-wife was a werewolf, his son’s girlfriend a vampire, and so was his apparently.
It didn’t seem real, or possible. But William had watched Alaia over the last two days. And since he now knew the truth too, she was more comfortable around him as well.
Like showing him how she could suck the jelly from a donut in two seconds flat. With her fangs.
It would have been frightening if he hadn’t seen their Alaia. She had after nibbled on the donut like the cutest little vampire cinnamon roll. Her expression adorable and innocent as Jasper cleaned her lips of the crumbs.
William found it cute ass hell, but also nerve wrecking. Because while William was positive Alaia wouldn’t hurt him. He also had a feeling she could so easily nibble on him or his son just as easily.
Which brought him to his latest problem.
Arden Sammuels.
William missed Arden more than he thought possible. And he hated himself for missing her because his mind was screaming danger. But his heart told him he found something in her special. And losing it would break him even worse than Yasmine leaving him.
After Alaia and Jasper woke up from their nap, he watched Jasper kiss her goodbye before she headed home. Jasper came into the kitchen and looked at his dad drinking a scotch. “You okay dad?”
William shrugged unsure, “I’m dating a vampire.” Jasper nodded grinning amused, “I am too.” William waved his hands at his son calm demeaner, “And it doesn’t freak you the hell out?” Jasper nodded for a moment, “Hell yeah. But it also amazes the hell out of me. And it doesn’t stop me from caring about Alaia.”
Jasper peered up at his dad, “This is about Arden isn’t it?” William nodded, “I like her…I like her a lot. And I can’t help but feel split down the middle. I mean what kind of father am I to say it’s okay we both have vampire girlfriends? But then again…how can I say it’s wrong?”
Jasper smacked his dad’s shoulder amused, “If only there was a dad’s handbook for these things.” William snorted, “Yeah with a couple supernatural chapters. How to deal if your son brings home a witch.” Jasper laughed again but then realized his dad’s issue, “You don’t have to put me in the equation this time dad.”
William faced Jasper seriously, “If I’m dating Arden that means she’s going to be here. Around you, I can’t just blindly trust she won’t hurt you because she’s with me.”
He understood that, Jasper knew his dad would never want him at risk. “True but I don’t have a problem with Arden. And I trust her a hundred and ten percent. Just like I do with Alaia.”
William’s nose flared as he admitted, “I trust her too. And I trust Alaia, it’s just…now I need to give them another level of trust. The trust that I believe they won’t rip my damn throat out now that I know they can.”
Breathing out shakingly, William admitted, “And it’s horrifying to know despite how afraid I feel about Arden being able to physically hurt me…” Shaking his head he stopped, and Jasper hit his shoulder, “What?”
William didn’t want to say it but Jasper drug it out of him, “I’m starting to realize that I’m more afraid of losing her. Of her leaving for the rest of my life and I know I’d hate myself if it’s my fault. She’s…special.”
Jasper grinned as he grabbed a drink out of the fridge. “Maybe you should tell her that. Maybe she can help you not be afraid.” And when Jasper was heading to go take a shower, he heard not ten seconds later his dad cranking up his truck.
