“How did it go?” Ali asked the moment I settled down in the chair. Truly I was a little surprised that she hadn’t blurted the question out the second I stepped into the room. When I looked up at her, freeing the mask from my own face, my heart ached at the way her teeth sank nervously into her bottom lip. She’d changed into her pyjamas now, having washed her face clean and the comforter of her bed had been pulled back. The way her laptop was set up on the corner of her desk with the screen facing the bed, told me that she had listened to my instructions and tried to relax a little. It definitely didn’t seem to have worked though, she still looked just as wired as before.
