“How on earth did these incompetents let her leave the country?" Michael rose to his feet, his voice rising in disbelief. He slowly sat back, his gaze lingered on the screen as he struggled to process the news.
The meeting room fell silent, the shareholder's gazes fixed on him. Michael's composure began to fade, but he regained it with a deep breath and adjusted his shirt.
The silence in the meeting room and the gaze fixed on him made him feel like a fool and he had to utter, “The meeting will be adjourned till next week."
He strode out of the hall with a confident air but as soon as he entered his vast office, his pretense crumbled.
He drummed his fingers against his table, his face showing a hint of redness. A knock at his door fueled his anger. “Get lost before I lose my temper,” he threatened, seated on his chair and trying to keep his composure.
Through the glass door, he saw a blurry figure - Xander, the one who had been tasked with surveilling Samantha.
Michael drew a deep breath, “If I come to you myself...” Before he could complete his statement, Xander barged in, his forehead slick with cold sweat.
With a slight bow, Xander showed respect, his eyes cast downwards. He held a collection of printed pictures, depicting Samantha.
Michael collected the pictures, his gaze falling upon the frown etched on her face. Then his eyes widened as they landed on a picture showing her unmistakably pregnant. “She looks pale,” Michael observed, his eyes fixed on her swollen belly.
He opened his mouth to make another comment but Xander broke in, “Here's the pregnancy scan result, it's a twin."
Michael slumped back in his chair, his eyes fixed on the scan results as if willing the truth to change, “She moved on so soon?" He wondered aloud.
He shook his head, his lips parting in a silent “No" as if he was refusing to accept the truth.
Xander cut in Michael's words, “I haven't seen her intimate with any other male.” Xander's eyes darted around the room, avoiding the boss's piercing gaze. “But..." Xander's voice trailed off and Michael leaned forward eager to hear the rest.
Xander bent and went on his knees, his eyes cast down. His action made Michael gasp “That night Samantha shared with you was supposed to be with me." Xander spilled out.
Michael held his breath and with haste stood on his feet, his fist balled, “What do you mean?" He yelled, his veins visible from his neck.
“Sir.." Xander wanted to continue but was cut off by Michael. “Don't... Another word from you and I will make your life a living hell."
Michael's expression darkened. He rasped, his voice low and menacing. “Get out!" Xander rose hastily, hanging his head in shame. He had something to say but Michael didn't want to hear it. Xander left with a burden in his heart.
As he approached the Ferrari, lost in thought. A whistle pierced the air, he looked up to see Emily approaching him, her eyes locked on him with a romantic intensity.
“Hey, Xander," she said romantically, moving closer to him until her breath caressed his ear. Her gaze burns with the secret only they shared.
Xander's heart raced as she drew near, his mind racing with the implications of her presence.
He forced a stern expression, trying to hide the turmoil within. “We shouldn't meet publicly, Emily,” Xander said, his voice trembling even though he was trying to stay firm.
Her fingers played on his face but he instantly pushed her hand away, his skin tingling from her touch, his thoughts consumed with their secrets.
“Dont worry, my husband is too stupid to suspect a thing between us. You will continue to fake my distant cousin," Emily cooed and gave a wink.
Her gaze lingered on Xander her gaze noticing Samantha's pictures in her hand. Xander tries to hide the pictures from Emily but his action is cut shut by Emily's words, “I know everything."
Xander eyes widened, his thoughts pleading for an escape, “I don't want to get involved in your games."
Emily's smile grew wider, sensing Xander's fear. "You should have spent the night with Samantha as planned. Now that billionaire is currently spying on her."
“It wasn't my fault Michael took interest in her after I spiked her drink," Xander complained, his voice cracking. He was just a pawn in Emily's game.
Emily took in a deep breath, her eyes narrowed, “Let's get in the car, we have a plan to discuss."
Xander hesitated at first, but after much thought, he decided to hop in the car, “Please, stop seeing me. I can't keep living in fear of you exposing me.”
Emily's laughter was cold and calculating,
“Find a man to fake being Samantha's lover and I will let you go."
Xander's brows furrowed, “Why all this hate for this lady? Samantha did nothing wrong.”
“Do you prefer me to release the clip of you spiking her drink instead?" Emily threatened, her eyes squinted, her voice dripping with malice.
Xander kept mute, he knew he could face legal consequences if that clip gets uploaded. He inky agreed to assist in Emily's mission because of the pay she promised which he's yet to receive.
Emily's finger traced his chin, her voice sweet but malicious “Introduce me to your boss. He must impregnate me so I can be showered with all that attention and cash instead.”
The way Michael immediately shut down Samantha's trending a*x video from the internet even when his face was blurred out impressed Emily.
Xander turned around, his mouth widened in disbelief. “What about your husband, Gabriel? Remember you also snatched his from Samantha."
“Keep your mouth shut!" Emily yelled, her eyes widened. “Do you think only she deserves good things? She keeps getting what I desire and you think I would let her go scot-free?" Her voice rose, her fury boiling over. “You owe me, Xander. You will introduce me to Michael, or the clip will go viral."
