I watched Cash go, sending up a silent thought urging him to be careful, before shutting the door and turning to face Ethan. He was studying me as though he’d never seen me before. Or perhaps that was my imagination. I did my best to keep my expression neutral, not willing to give anything away just yet.
I always knew my past would come out. And if I’d been responsible, I would have shared it with Ethan before mating him, so he could be certain about what he was getting into. But the truth was, I’d been scared he’d reject me had he known, and so instead, I’d trapped him.
I was a vampire after all. It was in our nature to be devious.
