There was nothing he could do to take back what he said, but he felt a wave of relief once it was out. This time, though, he couldn’t read Iris, and he had never felt so much fear in his life until now. He didn’t want to lose her.
“And I was part of your plan?”
“I thought about it, but then I saw you, and I couldn’t put it in motion. I couldn’t do it.” He answered her without breaking eye contact. He was afraid that if he blinked, he would lose Iris.
Iris nodded a few times. Her facial expression remained the same. If there was a perfect description for it, it would be distant. It felt like she was drifting further away from him.
