40. The Elder

I wasn't sure how long I had stayed down there, at least a day had passed.  At some point I had been so thirsty that I had shifted just long enough to reach the water and pull it closer to me.  I had learned my lesson and took just a sip so I could wait and see if they had put something in it, and as I started to feel sleepy just a moment later, I knew it was indeed drugged.  I shifted back, I didn't want them to catch me in my human form if I passed out.   By the time I heard them coming, I was too tired and feeling sick.  I wasn't expecting him, but the first one to enter was the Elder.  I growled at him, and he only frowned at me.  "I see you are still in your animal form.  I don't like that, shift back," he said in a commanding tone, and for a moment I felt the need to listen to him,
