Mikaela was a possible threat and needed to be dealt with as one. Alexander’s apology felt hollow, but I didn’t care. The man had been suspicious of me from the start, which was understandable, given my connection to Caelan. Still, he allowed Hope to make her own decisions, which meant she was mine to protect now. His approval was irrelevant. My thoughts drifted back to the conversation we had in his office. He told me that Hope could choose where she wanted to stay—whether it was here at the pack house or somewhere more private, like one of the cabins. I knew she wasn’t the type to run away
