CHAPTER 56: ORDERS
Raquel did not lost them. As she run to save herself from whatever trouble awaits for her, she never noticed the dead end in front. But it’s too late.
She was cornered, and the fear that blossoms inside her chest doubled.
“What an I going to do?” She whispered helplessly.
Hopeless, when the men catch up with her, and they have a smug look on their faces mocking Raquel.
“There’s nowhere to run now.” The one who shoots then after they crash in the river chuckled darker. “Your only option was get hurt or surrender. “
She clenched her jaw.
“Who are you?” Raquel gulps. She have no idea, where this courage may have come from. “If it is about money, I can pay you.” She can’t, unless she uses whatever money she can retrieved from David.
But that was least of her worries. What matters now is the reason why they have been chasing them all the way up here. She could tell that they had been hired but by who?
“Don’t worry about that, we won’t touch you or lay a single hand on you, if you come with us peacefully.” The smile on their faces told her otherwise. They were dark, full of malice and crude intention.
Whatever they are here for, it may have something to do with either her or Eliot.
“How can I be sure that you won’t kill me then?” There’s no assurance.
Raquel have watch movies and she knew how this usually ends. Either she’ll be the one dead or someone will rescue her from those men. But who would? Eliot is still in his hospital bed, oblivious of where she could have might been, and the waitress may have called the cops, but it will take a little while before they appear here.
“You should not be asking us about your safety, but our boss would decide your fate.” The bearded man chuckled.
Boss? Raquel thought.
So, she was correct. Someone was behind all of it.
“Who hired you?” Raquel was frank.
“You see that’s the hardest part.” The man begin to advance along with the others. “We couldn’t tell you that, but as long as you come with us without resistance, we’ll assure you that you maybe able to see her, alive, but if not—we can just report back that you provoke us and then you die, that’s the ending.”
“You—!”
“But that wouldn’t be the end of it.” When he get closer, and was standing in front of Raquel, he bent his head on her level. “We were told that you’re not alone, and we are bound to find Eliot Duke. What do you think?”
Her heart skip a beat.
They are going to do something bad to him!
“You wouldn’t dare!” Her anger gave way.
They are threatening her, because they knew she would break. But how? Did you know something that she is oblivious about?
“What are you gonna do then, Mrs. Smith? Offered us money?” The laugh. “As far as we knew, your father has been arrested, and all of your assets are frozen, so what can you offer? Or perhaps we can talk about it…”
One man goes after her.
He was eyeing her body.
“You can offer something…” He suggested as he picked his lips.
He grab her wrist.
Raquel hardened her façade, “You p*****t!”
SLAP.
She swatted his hands away with angry look.
“Don’t you dare touch me again!” She warned him.
“You damn bitch.” The man spat. The slap made his cheeks winced. He looks rattled, but his ferocity was left plastered on his face. He wanted to strangled the women only if they hadn’t been told to bring her alive.
“You really think you are still in control, huh?” He raised his hand, and by the looks of it, he wouldn’t hesitate to hurt her now.
Raquel braced for impact. Her and her recklessness would really get her in trouble sometimes.
She closed her eyes as she waited for the pain, but a few moments past, and then nothing.
What? She was confused.
Slowly, Raquel opened her eyes, but the sight before her made all the words on her lips be muffled again in her throat.
The men….the men are dead, butchered with bullets on their head. They were killed silently, and on top of that, a man towered their corpses.
“Hello, Mrs. Smith.” He said.
Her eyes widened.
Oh god, is she being trick again by her head?!
“You didn’t mention that she was sick.” That was the first thing that Jerome uttered at the sight of Indra, but as precaution, she is still dressed as Anita. The kind woman whom Eliot and Raquel meet.
“Why do you need to know?” She looks the same.
Her voice is as usual, cold, empty of feelings.
“She was dying, and yet you still wanted to use her!” He was not supposed to care, but in a short time that she was watching Eliot and her, and knowing everything she have gone through from her parents, who fed her lies—Jerome felt sympathy for the girl.
“Did you know that she was always beaten everyday?” He turned his back and faced him.
Indra only look at him. His eyes are unreadable.
“Do you know how they embarrassed her and hurt her, and harm her all the way that I least to imagine, Indra.” He continued.
But the woman did not budge from her seat.
She let out a sigh, “Do you wanted to know the truth, because I know you wouldn’t like it, nor would you understand why I am doing this, Jerome.” Indra was calm.
He hated her calmness for now.
“I know your reason, I understand where you are coming from, but Raquel, I don’t think so that she would be able to handle another pain, her plate is already full—”
“She must, if she wanted to avenge against those Roswell.” It was her vengeance.
“How? How are you going to convince her, when she didn’t even know who you are?” Jerome’s jaw was clenched.
“She didn’t, because that right was stolen from me, Jerome!”
SLAM!
The glass place on the table fell on the floor with a crash, when she slammed her palms on top of it.
Her chest was moving faster, her emotions are in a whirlwind mixing with a lot of that she could feel.
Jerome sigh, “I’m sorry.”
He lowered his head in apologetic manner.
“It isn’t you whom I need that apology from.” With her eyes darkening, Indra sat down, but the reminder of the past flashed before her eyes.
The day she found out that the man she loves deceived her just because Indra has no power, a poor girl who dreamt, but she was still betrayed.
