CHAPTER 18: ACCUSATIONS “Hey, I haven’t seen you since yesterday.” Gemma eyed Minchin. “Everything’s good with you?” “Yeah, just taking a rest, and paying a visit with my brother.” Minchin forced a smile. “Really? So how’s Zach?” Gemma’s eyes sparkled. She was suddenly so interested hearing about Zach, when all she cares was his looks. Gemma had become one of his fling before Italia came into the picture. She was the flirty girl on the side who couldn’t tore her eyes off from her brother. Always the one on his tail, but never actually caring about him. Ecstatic, but unaware that Zach have gotten I live in an accident. “Well, he is still comatose.” Minchin look at her with sarcasm. “Worried about whether he is going to die or wake up the next day.” Gemma’s face changes. “Oh, I didn’t know, I’m sorry—” “I don’t need your apology. It wasn’t as if you have something to do with his accident.” Minchin face is hard. “Besides, what I needed are the reports that I assigned you yesterday—” “Well—” Gemma gulps. “I’m... Well, uhm...” “Don’t tell me you didn’t make it.” Minchin squinted her eyes. The latter hangs her head low in shame. “I—I’m really sorry—” “I don’t f*****g need your excuses.” Minchin knew she was harsh, but she jut couldn’t stop herself from doing so. “Next time, I’ll fire you, if you failed to attend your responsibility again, are we clear?” “Yes—” “Yes, Ma’am.” Minchin glared at her. “That’s the right answer, Ms. Roulade.” “Y—yes, Ma’am.” With that said, Gemma was quick on her feet as if she was being chase. All of the employees go back to work, when Minchin glance at them. She clicked her tongue before walking inside her office, but she just couldn’t concentrate. Her mother’s words get the better out of her. “f**k!” She hold her head. That’s when the news that was playing on her flat screen TV caught her attention. “News flash from the entertainment department!” It is their station, Alicia Mendez looked at the camera with a bright smile. “Oh my, what are we looking here?” On her left was Samantha Montreal’s photo with Gustavio Salvador. “Seems like our hunches are always right. This two seems to be in an intimate relationships, hmmm?” Alicia was suggestive. Minchin rolled her eyes. “Intimate?” She scowled. She weren’t blind. From a different angle, the two seems to be arguing. Samantha’s face look scared, and Gustav was holding her wrist in a rather uncomfortable way. Whatever it is, her guts were telling her that it might have been because of the rumours. Suddenly, the telephone inside her office rings aloud. RING. “Hello—” “Is this the office of Miss Minchin Torres?” It was a gruff voice. “Who is it?” She frowns. “LAPD.” The man responded. “We just have a few more question for you about the disappearance of Ms. Italia Mercedes—” “Who again?” That totally captured her attention. “Ms. Italia Mercedes and her disappearance, Ms. Torres.” “Oh God.” Minchin was shocked. How can she not expected that Italia would disappeared after she left her on the hospital? “This is absurd!” Minchin rubs her temples. “I don’t have anything to do with her disappearance—” “Then, does that mean the CCTV around the area is lying?” The old man opposite to her scowled at her. “If I wanted her dead, I’ll think of a better way, not this.” She was frustrated. “Yes, I help her, and sent her to the hospital, when she fainted, but that’s just it.” “Then afterwards?” The old man eyed her. She rolled her eyes in annoyance. “Then I left.” She crossed her arms. “Other than that, I don’t have any contact with Italia.” But the old man doesn’t seems to believe any words she uttered. She scowled at him. “If you don’t have anything to ask, mind if I go?” Her voice drips with sarcasm. “You can go, but that doesn’t mean, it stops here, Ms. Torres.” The man stood up from his seat. Without glancing at her, nor even apologising, he walked out of the door first that made her annoyance flared more. “How rude!” Minchin clicked her tongue. She grab her purse and began marching, nor even hiding her irritation as she walked by. A few glance at her, but she didn’t mind the attention. How shameless of that officer, accusing her that she have done something with Italia! She’ll probably have at some circumstances, but she was innocent at this point. She even try to paid her bills, only if it hasn’t been paid by somebody else. “Ms. Torres—” “What?” She let out a huff. Minchin crossed her arms above her chest, and raised her eyebrows impatiently. “Err...chief says that he was sorry—” “Now, he was apologizing? Ha!” Minchin was furious. “Tell him that I won’t let this slide! I’ll file a case and sue you for accusing me, and for the record—” She eyed the young man, who looked at her awkwardly. “—I can write an article about what you have done!” “P—please, calm down, Ms!” “I am not going to calm down—!” “What’s happening here?” A soft, and deep baritone voice cut off her outburst. Minchin’s head whipped across to look at the owner only to get stunned by finding who it is. The man’s lips stretched into a grin, and his eyes sparkled as if he was delighted with the encounter. “And I wasn’t wrong, when I think that I might find you here—” “T—Tristan...” “Minchi.”
