SUSPICIONS
CHAPTER 14 [and Chaeron continue reaping and sowing non-stop; from where he took even innocent, who prow, and were oblivious at the storm he brought...]
What was left on Ella’s body is beyond recognition. Her remnants—gutted limbs and hands deems more likely who had made how grotesque she had appeared mauled by an evil out of this world. She was found on an abandon building that were once run as a hospital – saving people from death, yet became a den, where it nestled. Bloodied cloth, and extreme anguish they could saw, even the two detectives who are handling the case couldn’t stomach what they witness upon their arrival.
Ella is dead. She died, writhe on a painful death. It was horrible.
“What do you think?” Ruscov gestured. He throw one last glance at the body on the black bag, before it was zip closed. The men, who handle the corpse move it towards the waiting vehicle. They disclosed the perimeter as there are few bystander peering closely, intrigue at what had taken place on the building.
“I don’t know.” Reed’s heed towards the scalpel found on the crime scene. The only thing that had stolen Ella’s life without mercy, but other than that, there are no fingerprints leading to who may have been the killer, except of the victim itself. The only lead they had is the man, who introduced himself as Dr. Muller, and the young officer that were not yet found as Miller. “But we can review the CCTVs on the station, I was hoping we could find a clue there.”
“—Or our dead end would be the woman that Ms. Rodriguez is pertaining to in Belize, who may have been connected with the corpse found stake on the cathedral.” Ruscov added.
“We are not yet sure about that one.” Reed faced his colleagues.
“But her g*n—”
Reed cut him off.
“It is her right to defend herself now that we knew that Ms. Rodriguez group attempt to steal from her.”
“With a Beretta M9A3?” Ruscov shook his head. “I doubt that, Reed.”
“Let’s just hope that there wouldn’t be any killings that would add up to this one.” Red fished out his phone from his pocket.
“What are you doing?” Asked Ruscov.
“I am going to informed some stations and alert them.” He responded to the latter.
Ruscov’s phone ring. When he checked who may have been calling, Germa’s name came on the register and appeared. His eyes drifted across to Reed, who’s attention engage already to whoever he may have been speaking to. He pressed the answer button and began walking towards the car they brought.
“Germa—”
“Where are you?” He noticed the worries on her tone. “I heard about the killings. Is it the reason why you had been summoned?”
“Yes.” Ruscov professed.
“Does that mean—” He heard a deep intake of breathe from the other line. “—I won’t see you more often?”
“Germa—” But Ruscov paused. Both of them knew that the time they spent together would be rare. Ruscov were needed by his profession, and Germa likewise would have been on her duty on the hospital she’s working on. When she decided not to pursue after her dream, she became on pursuit of the footsteps left by her own father, who is also a renown doctor on his field.
“It’s alright.” The sadness on her voice made him clenched his jaw. Ruscov wanted to reassure her that it would be too soon before they solve the case, but seeing through what was happening? It would be impossible to assumed it that way. “Just take care. I love you, Alex.”
And soon the loud dial tone replaced her voice.
If only they can resolve it more quickly, perhaps he could fix and save their relationship. He may be in denial, but Ruscov felt her drifting away slowly from him, and he’s at fault to blame for what happened.
“I love you—” A solemn look passed on his eyes. “—Germa.”
BELIZE DISTRICT HOSPITAL
The deep sigh coming from her caught her colleagues attention.
“Are you alright?” The nurse, who’s currently on duty asked concern.
“I am.” Germa gave her a small smile. Although seeing through how empty she look and how hollow that expression on her face was, the latter daren’t ask anything at all.
Germa put her phone back on her pocket.
“I’ll be doing a round check.” Said she, before she turned her back.
But it didn’t take away the ache she felt on her chest.
How she missed Ruscov, but she knew that he have a duty to fill on. A reminder of what his father told her before, when he warned her not to date a cop, much worst a detective as they had always been away, so near, yet quite so far at the same time. They are not easy to build romance and passion with, but Germa has always been patient with Ruscov. What she failed to understand was to felt a gap between them that had never happened before. It’s unlikely. Perhaps, they needed this absence. They’d been together for years. She was hoping to build a family with him, but all deems futile, Ruscov appeared more committed on his job and she’s afraid that it may have been too early—although there’s some doubt bottling inside her chest that it wasn’t the problem at all.
“How are you feeling, Mrs. Guanzalo?” Asked Germa towards the old lady, who had been confined the other day on their hospital.
Upon her arrival, the old woman smiled at her.
“Feeling better, Ms.” A soft smile earning a response towards the latter had made her quite forget her worries. “Now that I saw a beautiful nurse taking care of me.”
“Now, That’s making me embarrass.” Germa jokingly said.
“Well, I am just stating the truth, Ms.” Mrs. Guanzalo winked at her.
Both of them laugh. This is what Germa likes while doing her rounds. There may have been stubborn patients, but there are admitted person just like Mrs. Guanzalo who made up her day. Germa had taken her BP, and made a schedule for her antibiotics, and other necessities that should be provided. She also take note changing her sheets and informing the laundry officers.
“Have a good day, Mrs. Guanzalo.” Germa bid her farewell afterwards.
“You too, dear.”
When the door shut closed, Germa find herself staring at the reflection from the glass surface that meet her gaze. It’s her. Beautiful? She thought.
Germa is a tall woman. She’s nearing 25, but she appeared more younger at her age. Unnoticeable strain on her eyes remain subtle, concealed, but deep down she actually felt like she’s getting older much faster, because of all the things that concerned her. Her blonde locks perfectly suit how symmetrical her visage was, an aristocratic nose and slanted eyes, which in reminder of a fox, a trait she inherited from her Japanese mother. Apart from being a half-Filipino and a half Japanese, by growing up in Mexico, Germa learn how to speak in Spanish. That made her fortunate to land a job on the country.
She softly smoothened the strands on her left, and tucked them behind her ears. Germa continue on her way, when she run into two men guiding a corpse to where surely would end up in the morgue. It was a black bag, presumably coming from the police department after an autopsy as it has been zip closed tightly.
“I’ve heard it belongs to a murder.” A nurse on the room beside her uttered strangely.
“How I wish they could find the culprit, since rumors are starting to spread that there is a serial killer on the loose.” Her company added, scared.
Germa had her suspicions. Peculiarly, she had this feeling that whoever it may have belong to is connected towards the case that Ruscov is handling at the moment. She also felt worries creeping out from her.
‘Please be safe, Alex.’ Germa bit her lips, but she was stop on her tracks, when she heard herself being page on the front desk.
“Nurse Germalyn Hernandez? Doctor Kovval is looking for you. Please report on her office.”
Doctor Kovval is one of the senior doctors, who’s been working in Belize much longer than her. She is a Russian. The same person, who had interviewed Germa. If it wasn’t for her, she wouldn’t be here, committing her life towards the unplanned things she was least expecting to, unbearable why’s and doubts leading for her questions to just gave it all up.
Germa brought her clipboard to her chest, and began making her way to the south wing of the hospital.
MIA KOVVAL’S OFFICE
“So, how long had you been in your profession, doctor?” Doctor Kovval poured a newly made coffee from the mug she prepared for her guest. It is a male, who deems to be much younger at her age. He looks masculine, and neat. She noticed how reserve he appeared, which she had taken note that perhaps it may have been in born or something he developed during his stay on the med school. His black hair were combed back professionally, and there are no crumples even on the hem of his lab coat.
“5 years you could say.” He responded.
Doctor Kovval placed the kettle on a tiny mat on her table. She intertwined her fingers as her orbs studied him closely.
“But what I am more curious about is how impressive your CV was, doctor.” Her eyes landed across towards the folder ahead of her. “It wasn’t possible for you to land a job somewhere on states, but why choose to apply here instead?”
The latter gently bring the mug in front of his lips.
“You could say I have my reasons, Dr. Kovval.”
There is a moment of silence that lies between them. Mia were trying to look through at the male, but he’s unreadable—guarded, as he seemingly enveloped by the walls he had himself surrounded away from the prying eyes nosily sticking their noses at what he hid.
She leans her back on her swivel chair.
“I guess we all do, doctor.”
Exactly at that moment, there are three consecutive knocks, before the door were pushed open. Germa made her presence inside the room.
“I was told to report in your office, Dr. Kovval.” She said, her eyes noticing the male sitting opposite from Mia.
“Well—” Dr. Kovval stood up, and gestured. “Dr. Hernandez, I wanted you to meet our newly appointed doctor, Mr. Muller.”
“Nice to meet you, Dr. Muller.” Germa offered her hand.
The man stared at her. Germa’s smile faltered. She was going retrieved back her hand, when she felt him placed his and gently shook hers.
“Nice to meet you too—” He paused. “—Dr. Hernandez.”
Oddly, her mind may have been playing tricks on her, but Germa felt herself shudders at something that she’s totally oblivious about. It was the same cold feeling she felt, a foreboding omen about a catastrophe that were yet to happen.
