Hailey’s POV
“Wait, what?” I had not seen this side of Tyler yet. The normally cocky man suddenly looked and sounded so defeated.
“Derek once told me the biggest reason he’s with Jessica is because she’s been one of the only women to show him that she cares about him. Her and our mom. I’ve seen over and over how Jessica will push away any other woman that comes into his life, and Derek helps by removing himself from their lives as well.
“But the way he just came over and apologized…I’ve never seen that. He doesn’t want to lose you,” Tyler said, his eyes on the ground in front of him.
“As a friend,” I said. “We’re just friends, he said it himself.”
Tyler looked at me, his smirk slowly returning. “Well, maybe we should keep the bet going, see which one of us is right.”
