Hailey My feelings were at war as I sat in the corner of the ballroom, watching as the opening dance began. It had been a long time since I’d seen my mother this happy. She smiled in Aaron’s arms and giggled each time he spun her around. She looked beautiful when she smiled like this, and it made my heart feel warm. But then I looked over at Derek and Jessica, and that warmth would turn bitterly cold. Derek looked just as happy as my mother. He grinned at Jessica as he lifted her and spun her around. She looked so effortless and elegant in his arms. So much for her parents scolding her for tearing my dress. I sighed and looked away from them. I needed a drink. I turned, walking towards the tables at the edge of the room. I was reminded of high school prom.
