The air in the room hung heavy with tension, each man locked in their own thoughts. Finally, Maxime broke the silence, his voice low and burdened. “I am ashamed of what I’m about to say,” he admitted, his tone laden with guilt. “But we need to face reality. Despite all our efforts and resources, we cannot keep Axel safe, not in these realms.”
Kai’s eyes flashed with anger as he turned sharply toward his son. “What nonsense are you spouting now?” he demanded, but Maxime didn’t flinch.
“We have no choice,” Maxime pressed. “Until the treaty is abolished, it’s the law. And as long as it stands, Axel is a walking target. We can’t protect him indefinitely.”
Tay leaned back, his arms crossed and an infuriatingly smug smirk curling his lips, as if he’d been expecting this conclusion all along.
