Cora POV I woke to find I was still snuggled up against Gunner's chest, having had the best night's sleep since Gunner left for his club's so-called business run. I don't ask questions. Scones briefed me well enough to know that in club life, the men could disappear for days, and that it's for the women's protection that they are told very little. I don't get it, but I accept it. I converted the lack of knowledge into something I could understand, such as patient records, on a need-to-know basis. You don't go around talking about a patient as if it were gossip. I accept it more easily when thinking of it like that. Moving carefully, slowly, I retreated from his warm body and headed to the shower, had a quick one, dried off, got dressed, checked the fridge, and sighed in disappointment.
